| Late summer is buzzing with good food, meaningful work, and community gatherings at the Intervale Center! This month, we’re excited to share updates from our work across Vermont’s farms, land, and people – plus fun ways to get involved as we head into September. |

| | | | The People’s Farm: Growing food for Fair Share |
|
| | The People’s Farm, a volunteer-driven farm of the Intervale Center, has been growing and providing fresh produce for our free CSA-style food distribution, Fair Share. Since spring, our staff and volunteers have planted, tended, weeded, and cared for crops to supply Fair Share with nutritious, locally grown food.
Each week, produce grown here, along with food gleaned and donated from farms across Chittenden County, is distributed for free through Fair Share to 400 families and individuals. So far this season, the People’s Farm has provided about 12,000 pounds of fresh produce, including kale, pepper, cabbage, and more! |

| Thanks to the gleaning efforts and donations from across the state, over 40,000 pounds of produce have been distributed through Fair Share since June! Volunteers are essential throughout this work, from harvesting at the People’s Farm and gleaning surplus crops at local farms to helping set up and support Fair Share each week. |

Growing Together: Homecoming Seeds |
|
|
| Earlier this summer, Intervale Center staff visited Homecoming Seeds, a Vermont seed company and Intervale Center Farm Business Services client, founded by Charlie Watt. As part of our work supporting Vermont farmers and farm businesses, we connect with growers across the state to learn about their work, understand their needs, and celebrate their contributions to Vermont’s food system.
At Homecoming Seeds, we saw that work up close. Charlie has spent years building a collection that celebrates the stories, flavors, and histories carried by seeds. We toured the farm, learned how he has grown the business, and explored the thoughtful process of growing, saving, and sharing seeds adapted to Vermont’s agricultural future. We’re grateful to work with Homecoming Seeds and excited to share their story. |

| | | | Celebrate the Burlington Wildways Trail Completion |
|
|
| Burlington Wildways is a partnership between the Intervale Center, Burlington Parks, Recreation & Waterfront, Winooski Valley Park District, and Rock Point Commons that connects and cares for the city’s wild places and paths. The Burlington Wildways Trail links natural areas across the city, including land stewarded by the Intervale Center. Along the way, dedicated Trail Steward volunteers keep these shared spaces clean, welcoming, and accessible.
Join us at Ethan Allen Homestead on Saturday, August 29, from 9:45–11 a.m. to celebrate the completed trail! The morning will feature a ribbon cutting, cake, coffee, refreshments, guided hikes, and nature exploration. Keep an eye out for the beautiful artwork created by local artist Christine Tyler Hill. |

| | | Working Together on Knotweed Management |
|
| | Our partnership with Burlington Wildways also supports hands-on stewardship throughout the city’s natural areas. This summer, staff, interns, and volunteers have met weekly to cut back invasive knotweed along the trail. Because knotweed grows quickly and can return from even small pieces of root, managing it takes patience, consistency, and plenty of return visits, but every effort makes a difference. |

| | | | Our Land Stewardship team built a brand-new wagon to bring volunteers to projects across the Intervale. Designed and built by the team themselves, we were thrilled to take it on its inaugural ride this month! We can’t wait to see it rolling into many more projects. |
