Intervale Conservation Nursery Intern
Status: Seasonal, part-time (financial stipend available)
Position Length: August-October 2026
Position Hours: Average 10 hours/wk. 100 hours total over the course of the internship, flexible weekly schedule
Internship Overview:
This Internship offers a mix of physical, outdoor work and insight into Vermont’s statewide efforts to protect and restore rivers and wildlife habitat. The Intervale Conservation Nursery Intern will support seasonal operations at the Intervale Conservation Nursery through production tasks such as propagating, weeding, irrigating, and potting up trees. They will participate in stewardship work including invasive species removal and site maintenance; and help with bareroot tree plantings at restoration site across Vermont. This position offers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with native plant propagation, ecological restoration, and the operations of a working native plant nursery.
Intern Qualifications:
·Environmental Studies, Forestry, Natural Resources, or similar majors preferred; all majors welcome to apply.
·Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions and perform physical labor.
·Ability to lift 50 pounds and navigate uneven terrain.
·Dependable, self-motivated, and excited to learn.
·Interest in native plants, ecological restoration, and conservation.
·Experience with hand tools, landscaping, or nursery work a plus, but not required.
·Ability to be in-person at the Intervale Center, 180 Intervale Rd., Burlington, VT and at field sites around the region (transportation for off-site work is provided).
