Johanna Schneider, Small Business Support Specialist, City of Burlington

Johanna (Jo) grew up in rural New Jersey surrounded by a variety of farm animals and worked both nationally and internationally on goat, cattle, and veggie farms in her teens. She first fell in love with Vermont after landing her first job as a French teacher at Vermont Academy. A career change to international development took her away to Washington, D.C. but she soon found her way back to the Green Mountain state. A country girl at heart, when moving to Burlington, Jo specifically sought housing as close as possible to the Intervale and ran or walked the trails daily. She and her partner are year-round Intervale Community Farm CSA members and are incredibly grateful to be sustained in so many ways by the Intervale. Jo feels fortunate to be able to give back to this incredible land by serving on the IC board.

Jo works for the City of Burlington in the Community and Economic Development Office supporting small businesses. She is passionate about supporting the community at large and particularly excited to work with food-based entrepreneurs. When she’s not in City Hall or visiting businesses, she can be found in her garden or out on Vermont’s trails either mountain biking, hiking, or skiing.
