Eric Sorkin, Co-Founder & CEO, Runamok Maple
Sugarmaker. Former lawyer. Co-founder and CEO of Runamok. Lifelong environmental advocate. Mastermind behind Sparkle Syrup®.
After years of schooling, a law degree and master’s of environmental management, and time working for various advocacy groups in DC, Eric and his wife, Laura, decided to move to Vermont to become farmers. While operating an organic farm in Cambridge, he began tapping maple trees on his property in 2009 and quickly grew to be one of the largest producers of bulk maple syrup in the country. By 2016, he decided to move into the retail market and launched Runamok.
The company quickly outgrew its sugarhouse and moved manufacturing to a 55,000 sq. ft. former-Scrabble-tile factory in Fairfax, Vt. He has expanded Runamok beyond maple syrup to cocktail mixers, bitters, and a line of premium U.S.-sourced honey. Throughout his growth he has remained committed to environmental stewardship, corporate responsibility, and commitment to his team – as well as producing innovative, beautifully-designed specialty food products with the highest quality ingredients.
He now serves as CEO of Thunder Basin Maple Works and Runamok – sibling organizations that manage 125,000+ maple taps, employ over 75 full-time employees, and retail in stores across the entire US and internationally. When he’s not running amok, he is a board member of NOFA-VT and The Main Street Alliance of Vermont.
