Intervale Center Volunteer Opportunity

Intervale Center Volunteer Opportunity

Saturday, February 17th from 10am - 12pm or 1pm - 3pm

Join the Intervale Conservation Nursery to help collect hardwood cuttings that will eventually be propagated to create new trees and shrubs for riparian restoration projects. Hardwood cutting collection is when you go out into nature and cut portions of a branch off of a tree/shrub. The tree/shrub is dormant (sleeping) at the time, so harvesting cuttings doesn't harm the tree. We collect these cuttings for starting trees/shrubs in our greenhouse in March. Once the cuttings are collected they are stored in the cooler under a blanket of snow until they are ready to be planted. Volunteers should be dressed warmly, with hats, gloves and warm boots. We will provide pruners. Meet at the Intervale Center at 180 Intervale Road (the first right after Gardener’s Supply Company).
