Supporting Access to Fresh, Local Produce
We know you believe that everyone deserves access to healthy, local food. That’s why we ensure fresh produce reaches the people who need it in ways that are dignified and low barrier.
The Intervale's free Fair Share CSA is one key part of the Intervale Center’s broader Food Access work. Fair Share provides fresh, local produce year round — all gleaned, donated, grown, or purchased from Vermont farms — to support both our community and our producers. The program is open to anyone experiencing barriers to affording fresh food, with no documentation required.
“As a reliable source of fresh and free vegetables, the Intervale significantly reduced my stress around affording food and allowed me to eat much healthier than I otherwise would have been able to. I was also consistently impressed by how kind and friendly all the staff were – they never made me feel awkward or othered for experiencing food insecurity and needing this support. I am deeply grateful for the generosity and hard work of everyone who made this possible. ”
Hunger remains a persistent challenge in Vermont: two in five Vermonters experience food insecurity, and nearly half of BIPOC families report not having enough food. Demand for our Food Access programming continues to grow. Last year alone, we served a record 790 families and distributed 110,000 pounds of food.
Our approach is rooted in systems change – addressing the root causes of hunger and deepening our statewide impact with regional partnerships while operating year round free food programming to address immediate food security needs in the greater Burlington area.
