May Newsletter - Explore our 2025 Impact Report, volunteer opportunities, and Bike Bloom

Dig into May at the Intervale Center
May has arrived, and the Intervale Center is hitting its spring stride. Seedlings are going into the ground, native tree saplings are filling the nursery, and our fields, trails, and programs are buzzing with activity. We’re excited to share our newly released 2025 Impact Report, fresh opportunities to volunteer, and details for Bike Bloom on May 21. Whether you’re digging in, riding along, or cheering us on, thank you for being part of all we’re growing together.
2025 Impact Report

Each year, the Intervale Center grows and evolves alongside the community that makes this work possible. Our newly released 2025 Impact Report highlights what we accomplished together to strengthen Vermont’s food system – from supporting farmers and stewarding the land to increasing access to fresh, local food for our neighbors.

As Executive Director Travis Marcotte writes, this year’s report “captures the momentum of a growing community food systems movement – one that is creating a more equitable food system for all.”

We invite you to explore the report and reflect on what we're building together.

Volunteers are at the heart of the Intervale Center’s work. Across our wide-ranging efforts to sustain farms, land, and people, volunteers help strengthen local food systems by growing and distributing fresh food, restoring native habitat, and caring for the shared spaces that connect our community to the land. Whether you join us once or volunteer regularly, your time makes a meaningful difference and helps us cultivate an equitable and sustainable food system for all.
Volunteers plant produce at The People's Farm, our community-run farm.

As the seasons shift, we have new and on-going volunteer needs to share:

The People's Farm – Join our volunteer-powered farm effort to grow food for the community! Produce is grown for our free CSA-style produce pick-up: Fair Share. And it is a fun and welcoming space for all to learn about agricultural processes.
Weekly on Thursday evenings through July

Conservation Nursery – This time of year, much of the Intervale Conservation Nursery staff are away from the Intervale: planting trees or collecting seed across the state. We need your help to keep operations running smoothly in our greenhouse and fields! Tend to native saplings, trees, and shrubs while learning hands-on forestry skills.
Weekly on Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Friday mornings

Food Access – Ensure food reaches the community! We need weekly assistance in packing and distributing fresh produce for Fair Share, our free, CSA-style, produce pick-up.
Weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays through July, then Weekly on Mondays from July-October

Land Stewardship – Help care for trails, remove invasive species, or support the People's Orchard, the food forest growing fresh fruit and berries for our community.

Interested in supporting our Community Food Forest? Join the People's Orchard Mailing List. We need volunteers who are willing to participate in on-call harvesting so that the People's Orchard fruit can then be distributed to the community - for free!

Whether you can join us once or on a regular basis, your time makes a real difference!
