Practical Solutions for a Changing Climate
Your generosity helps protect the land that sustains us all
As unpredictable weather challenges farming and food security worldwide, you’re supporting practical solutions with impacts that reach far beyond our state. We care for Vermont’s one-of-a-kind Intervale and serve as a model for sustainable land management everywhere.
Ernesto Méndez, Co-Director of the Institute for Agroecology at UVM, has been partnering with the Intervale Center for more than a decade during his time as a professor of agroecology. Here’s what he shared about the existing collaboration between the Intervale Center and the Institute:
“The Intervale’s model serves as an example for others on agroecological land stewardship, community support, and creativity. The Intervale Center staff have been incredibly supportive of students, helping them explore the agroecological potential of the Intervale’s programs. Just this summer, our agroforestry crew and the Intervale team established a soil health baseline for a new elderberry planting project designed to support water quality. We deeply value this partnership and look forward to expanding and strengthening this work in the years ahead.”
This work requires planning and implementing climate resilient strategies that address changes to our land base, including buffer enhancement, invasives management, and infrastructure planning and development processes with Intervale farmers. In this way, we continue to be a model for other landowners and farmers across Vermont and beyond for how to produce food, feed people, and care for natural spaces in a changing climate.
