June at the Intervale Center
|
|
|
Summer is here and the season is in full swing across the Intervale Center. From collecting native seed for future restoration projects to exploring new approaches to farmland access, we’re continuing our work to strengthen the connections between healthy ecosystems, local farms, and our community. As the growing season ramps up, there are also plenty of opportunities to get involved – whether you’re lending a hand at Summervale, helping steward the land, or supporting food access programs. We hope you’ll join us.

Join us on Saturday, July 18 from 4–8 PM for Summervale, the Intervale Center’s annual celebration of local food, music, and community.
This free family-friendly event features live music from local bands, food and drink from beloved vendors, hands-on activities, a community tree planting, educational exhibits, lawn games, and more. Summervale brings together neighbors, farms, food producers, and community organizations for an evening of connection and celebration.
Food and drink will be available to purchase from a variety of local vendors: American Flatbread, The Skinny Pancake, Maharaja Spice, Taste of Abyssinia, The Pinery, and LuLu Ice Cream!
We are still searching for volunteers! We’d love your help with event setup, activities, parking, and more.

Farmland access is one of the greatest challenges facing the future of agriculture in Vermont.
Our Farm Business Services team created a new resource exploring collaborative land access models and how they can help farmers navigate rising land costs, farm succession, and changing agricultural landscapes. By sharing real-world examples and practical considerations, this project aims to support farmers, advocates, and communities working toward a more resilient agricultural future.
A special thank you to the Vermont Sustainable Jobs Fund and the Farm to Plate Network for funding this project, and to the producers who generously shared their time, knowledge, and experiences.

Riparian Lands Native Seed Partnership
|
|
Ever wonder where many of the native trees and shrubs planted in restoration projects across Vermont come from?
As part of the Riparian Lands Native Seed Partnership (RLNSP), Intervale Center staff work alongside partners to collect native seed from wild populations across the region. Those seeds are then grown into trees and shrubs that help improve water quality, reduce flood impacts, restore wildlife habitat, and strengthen riparian ecosystems.
