Alyson Chalnick

Alyson first discovered the Intervale Center as a new Vermonter when she attended Dinner in the Trees on a beautiful summer evening in August. She was immediately drawn to the organization’s mission, its people, and the sense of community she found there. She and Andrew continued attending Intervale events, and Alyson soon began volunteering with Everyone Eats. In the spring of 2020, she was invited to join the Mid-Summer Feast committee, where she has enjoyed helping bring the event to life for the past six years.

Alyson holds a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Bank Street College in New York City. She taught Kindergarten and First Grade before taking time to raise her four children in Millburn, New Jersey. While in New Jersey she served for six years on the board of the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum in Millburn, where she also helped care for and manage the arboretum’s 16 acres of woodlands and trails. After settling into Vermont, Alyson spent four years as the Internship Coordinator at Common Roots, a South Burlington nonprofit connecting undergraduate and graduate students with food, farming, and community.

Alyson loves the many ways the Intervale brings people together around land, food, and a shared sense of place. A former Vinyasa and Yin yoga teacher, she is now an avid yoga student. She is especially passionate about gardening, ceramics, the environment, and spending time outdoors. As a longtime volunteer and supporter of the Intervale Center, Alyson is excited to deepen her involvement through Board service and contribute to the organization and community she has come to value so deeply.
