Intervale Compost Products sells compost, top soil, potting soil, germinating mix, and many other products made from our high-quality compost. You can also drop off kitchen and yard waste at our facility.

At Intervale Compost Products we compost 20,000 tons of organic waste each year, improving the soil fertility of our community and putting life back in the soil where environmental health really begins.

The ingredients for our compost come from the leaves of Burlington, delivered by residents during the fall, dairy residuals from ice cream and cheese production, manure from horse, dairy, and chicken farms, and food waste from restaurants and cafeterias such as local schools, Fletcher Allen Health Care, and IBM.

As soon as the compost ingredients arrive on our site we mix them all together and build long piles, or windrows, with our bucket loader. Then the compost is turned regularly with our excavator for about eight months of HOT composting (you can see steam even in winter) plus about two months of the cool-down curing phase. The finishing touches on the composting process are screening, loading trucks, bagging, and making home deliveries. This year we are composting on an improved, better drained site due to renovation work done in 2005. We have acquired three key pieces of equipment that help us to run our operation; a compost screener that makes our Intervale Complete Compost and Garden Soil perfectly uniform and easier to spread; a skidsteer for loading pick-up trucks and moving pallets of our 20-quart bags around the facility; and a purple Kenworth dump truck for making home deliveries.

Look for our big purple truck and call us at 660-4949 for a delivery.

ICP uses heavy equipment to make all that compost and we are committed to using renewable energy in our equipment and vehicles whenever possible. Using locally produced biodiesel is one important way that we reduce our emissions. Our plan is to increase our use of biodiesel in our entire fleet.
