Intervale Consulting
Sharing Our Knowledge of Sustainable
Farm and Food Systems
Founded in August 2005, Intervale Consulting provides customized technical assistance and resources to individuals and organizations that want to develop sustainable farm and food systems. Our consulting services focus on community-based approaches like farm incubators, residential development that includes farms, farm viability and assisting farms to add value to their products on site. We host client site visits and we offer customized technical assistance, resource materials and speaking engagements.
For over twenty years the Intervale Center has been developing sustainable farm and food systems through social enterprise and market based efforts. Our programs complement each other. They are broad in scope but focused and effective on a community level. Throughout the United States momentum for creating and strengthening community-based local food systems is growing. The long-term efforts of many advocates for sustainable agriculture and food security have led to greater public awareness of the need for locally-based food systems. Intervale Consulting was launched in response to this enhanced interest, and we hope to share the Intervale Center’s experience through informational materials, tours and technical support so that our clients can create innovative and sustainable farms and land based ventures of their own.
Because of the varied nature of our clientele, we offer a sliding price scale for services. If you have any questions about Agricultural Development Services in general, or Intervale Consulting in particular, please contact Mandy Davis .
“Agricultural land uses are an integral part of our South Village community. The Intervale helped us develop an Agricultural Management Plan which identifies realistic goals and implementation methods to achieve our desire for complementary land uses at South Village.”
“The land we purchased is located in an area of high development pressure. We wanted to protect these 193 acres as the agricultural working land it had been for hundreds of years. Intervale staff is sharing their expertise with us in every phase of development to help us create a farm incubator program for the benefit of all North Carolina citizens. We couldn't do it without them.”
