Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)
As the demand for fresh, local and organically grown produce increases nationwide, CSA’s are fast becoming one of the more popular ways to connect people to their local farms and locally grown food. A CSA is a farm supported by community members who pay the farmer in advance of the growing season for a "share" of the farm’s harvest. Not only does this arrangement benefit the farmer, who receives 100%of the profits from his or her operation, but the consumer saves between 25-35% of the retail prices they would pay in most stores.
Joining a CSA is also a social experience, a way to build community and get to know your neighbors and farmers. Some CSA’s have pick-up days once or twice a week at the farm where the whole family can enjoy coming together with other community members to spend time on the farm collecting their shares and picking cherry tomatoes and raspberries. It’s a great family outing and kids love the experience. For residents on a tight schedule, many CSA’s deliver directly to your home or a common drop off site. Intervale CSA’s specialize in everything from vegetables to chickens, honey, tomatoes, flowers, and herbs. They also contract with local artisan producers who deliver organic bread, cheeses, meats and eggs for purchase with your share.
Below is a list of independent farms in the Intervale operating as CSA’s. Contact individual CSA’s for share prices and information.
