The Independent Farms of the Intervale Center
These farms operate as independent farms. Most sell products at local stores and farmers markets or operate CSA farms. A few have seasonal berries available as pick-your-own.
The Ethan Allen Homestead

Gardener's Supply was founded in 1983 by a handful of enthusiastic Vermont gardeners. Today, we serve millions of gardeners nationwide, offering everything from seed-starting supplies and garden furniture to flower supports and greenhouses. Outside our Burlington store you'll find over an acre of beautiful display gardens featuring annual and perennial flowers, vegetables and other edible plants, wildflowers, roses and water gardens.
Winooski Valley Park District

The Winooski Valley Park District provides residents in the Chittenden area with large natural areas for outdoor recreation and education. They manage 17 parks that feature 6 trails especially designed for parents with children.
Burlington Area Community Gardens

The Burlington Area Community Gardens (BACG) program is coordinated by the Burlington Parks and Recreation Department. BACG maintains 11 garden sites and 400 garden plots that serve an estimated 1500 people. Garden plots average 25 ft x 25 ft and are rented on a seasonal basis; half plots and youth plots are also available. One site, the Tommy Thompson Community Garden, is located in the Intervale. Chittenden Solid Waste District

Chittenden Solid Waste District operates Intervale Compost Products. The Intervale's first venture, Intervale Compost Products was created in 1987 to help restore the depleted agricultural lands of the Intervale. It has since grown to become Vermont's leading compost operation, recycling 30,000 tons of waste each year to produce a wide range of compost-based agricultural and horticultural products.
McNeil Wood-Fired Generating Facility

The McNeil Wood-Fired Generating Facility: The McNeil plant, owned by Burlington Electric Dept and located in Burlington’s Intervale across the road from the Calkins Farmstead, generates over 50 megawatts of electricity. BED owns 50% of the McNeil plant and this resource provides BED with local generation of 26 MW of capacity. It uses 76 tons of wood per hour of operation and the wood is harvested using sustainable forestry practices.
Mckenzie Park

Located next to the Winooski River, McKenzie Park has a beautiful wetland forest as well as working agricultural fields. The park can be accessed from the Burlington Bike Path. The McKenzie Park is managed in cooperation between Burlington Parks and Recreation and the Intervale Center.
