This is a leadership position for an individual who has a history of direct experience in development, can work in partnership with the Executive Director and a Development Associate (who also has administrative and marketing/communications responsibilities), is passionate about the role that agriculture and food play in building healthy communities, has a strong belief in collaborative work both within organizations and between them, and can be a mentor to staff and board to help develop an organizational culture that supports a well-rounded and sustainable development effort. The focus is on building a community base of support through memberships, appeals, special events, business partnerships, large donor cultivation and relationship building with philanthropic institutions to generate ongoing as well as special project support especially for specific capital needs.
The Intervale Center has an annual operating budget of approximately $1M. There are 15 year-round staff. It operates on a 350 acre urban land base of farm and conservation lands, overlaid with multiple other uses run by partner groups. We lease land to 13 independent farm operations, host a commercial compost project, the largest community garden in Vermont, a major recreation trail, and operate several key ventures (Farm viability consulting, a conservation nursery, and a food hub). The development team (Development Director, Development Coordinator, a part-time grants manager and the Executive Director) seeks to raise $450,000 annually in operating and special project and capital needs funds. The team is laying the groundwork for raising additional funds for special investments and capital needs. We are seeking a committed individual interested in a flexible and dynamic position with an institution that continues to be seen as a national model and is ready to hit the ground running. Substantial fundraising experience required in line with Intervale Center fundraising goals. At this time the position is budgeted as ¾ time.
